Alana is interested in the factors that deter individuals from engaging in empathetic behaviors, with the goal of developing strategies to overcome these barriers. Before coming to Penn State, she earned a BA in Political Science at the University of Oklahoma and worked primarily in community-serving jobs in her hometown of Durham, NC. Alana strives to incorporate a wide range of academic theories and lived perspectives so that she can produce more broadly accessible guidelines for community empowerment.
